The Band Formerly Known As TVE is now backing Dan on full-band arrangements of his "Bigger Is Better" songs. Following is their story:

Caught in a time warp between 1964 and 1974, The Vanilla Extract (Doug Kassel, Dan Reich, Michael Woods, Anne Zesiger and Joe Paulino) offers only the choicest nuggets of Folk-Rock, Garage and Psychedelia, presented by and for folks who have just enough brain cells left to remember the originals, as well as for younger generations who might be wondering what "Flower Power" was all about.

Creative harmonies blend with the distinctive ring of a Rickenbacker 12-string and a reedy old Farfisa organ as TVE revisits - and occasionally reworks - classics by The Beatles, The Stones, The Kinks, Cream and Hendrix, as well as more esoteric gems by The Music Machine, Steppenwolf, and The Strawberry Alarm Clock.

TVE brings together some of the busiest "keep your day job" players around. Doug Kassel (drums) has been a part of the Bay Area music scene since 1972, with a wide range of musical credits, from Rock (Jesus Christ, Superstar to Jazz (Jazz legend Marian McPartland). Also an actor, Doug has performed and taught improvisational theater for most of his life. Dan Reich (bass & vocals) toured and recorded with 70's disco phenomenon Sylvester, and has been musical director for Flash Family, The Wing, and other improvisational theater groups. Current Haight-Ashbury resident Michael Woods (guitar) began by working on light shows for many 60's artists such as Country Joe and Big Brother and the Holding Company. A master of a variety of tonal palettes, Michael appears regularly with singer-songwriter Jeff Rolka. Along with being one of northern California's top voice-over artists, Joe Paulino (keyboard, vocals) has drummed on projects for pianist Jef Labes and slide guitarist Dan Lange. He also performs with spontaneous composition ensemble These Are Not My Hands. Singer-songwriter Anne Zesiger (guitar, vocals) had a successful performing career in Canada, and has sung the national anthem at Candlestick Park. She's recorded an album of original music, and is currently composing for NPR and working on a second album of original material.

The Vanilla Extract is available for festivals, love-ins, pool parties (especially if the food is good), 50th birthdays, and any function where there's a desire for good-time retro rock and a “Summer of Love” vibe.
