| WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES
Last year at this time, Dan was contacting various media organizations in connection with "Bigger Is Better." But as he moved through his journey towards recovery, Dan found that his writing was taking him in a different direction. New songs such as "The Path" and "Survival" hinted at a deeper, yet more basic level of engagement with the listener than is possible with songs about SUVs or fast food. Inspired by the example of other musicians on similar journeys, Dan has been drawn to the idea of using his music and story as a message of healing and hope. There are no plans for another CD, but Dan is actively pursuing a fulfilling role as a performer for special audiences (such as treatment centers) benefits and with groups such as Bread & Roses, whose mission is to serve the same audiences. As Dan increasingly realizes that life is a gift and not to be taken for granted, he has dedicated himself to giving something back to those less fortunate with their health. KERRY BENEFIT ATTRACTS SUPPORT; LAUNCHES DAN'S SOLO CAREER A modest but spirited crowd filled the Pint Size in San Rafael on Oct. 16 for the Groovy Musicians for Kerry benefit. Dan opened the show with the first solo set he has performed since 1986 (and his second ever) mixing new and old originals with specially selected covers. Anne Nachtrieb Zesiger followed with a set of beautifully performed original songs, after which Anne and Dan joined bandmates The Vanilla Extract for a set of period pieces circa 1968, including their first public performance of Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth." A screen at the rear of the stage formed the perfect backdrop for the unveiling of TVE's Groovy Light Show. A great time was had by all, and despite the fact that donations were voluntary, several hundred dollars were raised for the Kerry/Edwards campaign. DAN TO PERFORM FOR BREAD & ROSES Dan is pleased to announce that Bread & Roses has asked him to do a show in November for a small group at California Pacific Medical Center. We expect that there will be more shows of this type where Dan can entertain and hopefully encourage audiences to overcome their own challenges.
