Saturday, October 16, Dan will perform a rare solo set as part of the Groovy Musicians for Kerry show at the Pint Size Lounge in San Rafael. Headlining the event will be The Vanilla Extract (see below) in which Dan plays his treasured white Hofner Beatle bass. Dan's set will include songs from "Bigger Is Better," in addition to new unrecorded material, old songs never publicly performed, and a couple of well-chosen covers. Using a piano, dobro and guitar (on separate songs...not at the same time) as well as harmonica, Dan will provide the most in-depth collection of his material ever performed. DR&F vocalist Anne Zesiger will also perform her original songs before The Vanilla Extract take the stage to the pulsating rhythms of their Groovy Light Show. $25 admission includes free copy of "Bigger Is Better."
THE VANILLA EXTRACT RIDES AGAIN!
Saturday, May 22, at a barbeque for the Marin School of Art and Technology (a charter school attended by Dan's son Tyler) four of the five members of the periodically active band The Vanilla Extract performed together for the first time in, well, quite a while. In addition to their repertoire of '60s favorites (well-received by the parents while the kids were busy dunking the principal) TVE backed Dan on a short set of songs from "Bigger Is Better. This was a fairly simple process since TVE is basically most of the "Friends" with the addition of Doug Kassel on drums. With some instrument re-assigning, this line-up could crop up in the future to support Dan at other local appearances. TVE has a proud history of performing at benefits and school Walk-a-Thons. Our most recent submission to GarageBand is "Don't Mess With My God," and the reviews it has generated have been fascinating. We anticipated that some people just wouldn't get it, but the range of sentiments expressed spans the cultural and ideological rainbow.
